Ways you can help support young trans people right now

Wordle, but for airport nerds

We can all learn a thing or two about accessibility in social media from this (we recommend listening to the screen reader capture too)

You don’t have to be good at something in order to love it and other life lessons

In tech news: Twitter is testing long-form posts, Snapchat and Facebook have admitted that TikTok is the future of social media, Instagram may soon expand to 90 second Reels, Tumblr has launched a tip jar to help content creators make money, and Bumble has acquired a French dating app that categorises people as pieces of fruit 🍑

Are you ready for the jelly sneaker trend?

How to want less

What artificial snow at the Beijing Winter Olympics could mean for the future of the games

Really re-thinking our gas cooktops after reading this 😭

Thoroughly enjoyed going down this influencer rabbit hole with Anne Helen Petersen

An honest piece of writing in The Cut about how lifting weights changed one woman’s lifetime struggle with disordered eating (“I always thought that if I dieted hard and long enough, my body fat would melt away to reveal my muscles underneath. What I didn’t realise was that too aggressive of a diet for too long would wear away at my muscles, too.”)

A long read about the complexities of the social media algorithm that’s worth your time

Oh thank god, there’s a scientific reason why breakups feel so rotten

Annnnddddddd…. parenting double standards in comic form, the 70s called and they want their hot rollers back, the newest TikTok trend is taping your mouth to have a better sleep and what is the world coming to, the trailer for Sally Rooney’s Conversations with Friends is here and we’re confused why Nick looks so young??, your home based on your enneagram, things that people don’t regret spending money on, this is absolute bullshit (please support creatives and small businesses!), we fully support our pets hacking into vet records, holy shit!!!!, if the Devil Wears Prada was set in 2022 (this is GENIUS), when you’re the only flatmate who went out last night, our favourite Triple J presenter is back with another hairbrush impersonation, when will the sad girl book cover trend be over??, video evidence that Meryl Streep is god, and if you’re an Aussie kid who grew up in the 90s you will find this and this extremely nostalgic

What we read, listened to, watched and ate this week…

Lizzie —>

Watching: Instant Hotel on Netflix, trashy reality TV at its finest. Australian Airbnb hosts battle it out for top “instant hotel”. It was made in 2019 and is oh so bitchy.
Listening: A new podcast by the team behind Serial called The Trojan Horse Affair
Buying: Gang of Youths ‘angel in realtime’ in animated zoetrope vinyl format. So trippy!

Listening:
The very excellent podcast Maintenance Phase has just released an episode about wellness scammer Belle Gibson, and it’s fascinating listening to the US hosts unpack Belle’s demise to their American audience
Cooking: I bookmarked Anna Jones’ Sag Aloo Shepherd’s Pie over a year ago and I finally made it last Sunday night. Probs not the right choice for a 35 degree day 🙃 but if you’re somewhere cool-ish I highly highly recommend
Watching: Station 11 on Stan. Can anyone else only handle watching this one ep at a time?
